D-I-R-E-C-T-O-R-!-!

When can a person truly say they are a film maker without sounding completely pretentious? "I'm A DIRECTOR!!!!! LA DI DA!" Is it when he/she finally has something financed and released or entered into film festivals. Is it when they buy their first beret and smoke a cigarette through a filter? Is it when they first say action! Or is it when they make a film or short film that doesn’t completely suck and the only person on the planet who likes it is their mum? I've thought about this for a while now and have come to the conclusion that it's pretty much when other people like and are exited by that person's vision.

VISION! That is one thing that directors really need, to be able to tell a good story and see it through to the end and keep that vision.

In class this week with Chris Richards-Scully we continued to analyse and brake down a script. This time I was really interested to find that scene actions and unit actions are used on every page of a script and every page is analysed so the director has his/her vision down to a T. Think about how long it takes a director to break down a script for a five minute script and then think about how much more work it would take to break down a ninety page script! HOLLY HELL!!!!!!!!!!

It takes commitment maaaan.

And it all comes down to: do you have a vision that you are so passionate about that you would spend your Sunday afternoon, when you could be sitting back at the beach, watching TV, back flipping into a pool or playing croquet, studying that damn script? Yes I think YOU do! YES YOU CAN lets say it together now, YES YOU CAN!!!!
Hallelujah!
